The new behavioral health hospital, a vital component of a large-scale greenfield project, stands out with its unique features. Spanning a 40-acre behavioral healthcare campus, it accommodates 144 beds, serving child/adolescent, senior, adult, and addiction medicine patient populations. The facility also includes two gymnasiums, outdoor recreation areas, a cafeteria/dining area, an administration suite, an ECT suite, and other essential support spaces.
Outdoor recreation areas within the units for different patient populations are surrounded by custom-designed wood fencing, ensuring patient privacy by limiting visual observation from outside the unit and between separate patient groups. Additionally, a non-scale mesh fence has been installed in the large central courtyard to maintain patient control, security, and safety while allowing views of the surrounding vegetation. Concerns such as patient escape, intrusion, collusion, contraband, emergency egress, lighting, CCTV monitoring, and self-harm were carefully addressed in collaboration with hospital decision-makers to ensure the final design meets the specific needs of each patient population.
